kazaa

Kazaa is without any doubt one of the best known filesharing programs ever. But does it really deserve its popularity?
In my opinion, it is light years away from that.
Let us start from the beginning: there are two versions to choose: the free one and the paid one ($29.95). The paid version is promised not to have ads… Well… the free one is promised not to have spyware… But either I am mistaken very much, or at least two of the seven (!) components that installed with Kazaa were spyware… Uninstalling Kazaa and its “friends” took me an hour. You could think of Kazaa as of an AdwareEater session.
The interface is somewhat confusing at first glance. Perhaps you can get used to it. I couldn’t.
The searches are fast and the number of results is miserable (see screenshot). 54 results for “britney” is below expectations in a kindergarten LAN. The downloads are frozen. They say they need more sources (I have only chosen the files from the very top of the list). The only download that was fast was that of a fake.
Because, you see, Kazaa connects to FastTrack (aka FakeTrack) - the network RIAA and MPAA have worked a lot on to discourage people from using it by putting massive amounts of fakes into it. They have had full success with me, at least.
Support for Skype and Bullguard anti-virus check are a great idea but the shortcomings are too many and too serious.
Two thumbs down from me. I wish I had more.
